Get To Know Jen Meyer

To help you get to know our organizers a bit better, we asked them to answer a few questions…

Here’s what Jen had to say:

What was your favorite part of WordCamp 2015?

WordCamp 2015 was my first ever WordCamp and everything was new to me. It’s a little nerve-wracking meeting so many new people at once, but the WordPress community was warm and welcoming.

This year I’m looking forward to getting the most I can out of the talks, and meeting more members of the WordPress Community. As the Speaker Wrangler it’s been great getting to know all of the speakers and I look forward to meeting all of them.

Why should people come to WordCamp?

Knowledge. WordCamp isn’t just for developers, we have speakers covering topics ranging from design to strategy. There’s something for everyone to discover and explore.

Any advice for those attending their first WordCamp?

Don’t be nervous and ask the questions you really want to ask. Chances are there’s someone else attending that has the same question. We all have different experience levels and interests, but we all have something to offer other attendees.

How has WordPress Or WordCamp Impacted you?

WordCamp has given me the opportunity to meet more people over the last 2 years than I could have as a student. I feel it’s important to get involved in the community and I’m glad I volunteered last year to be the Venue Director.

The WordCamp theme this year is “discovery” — What does that mean to you?

Discovery is all about the aha moments in life. That moment where everything clicks. When a concept is more than just something you learned and is now something you truly understand. Those are my favorite moments.

What does it mean in the context of WordPress?

WordPress has so many hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. Every time I need something special for a project it’s just a plugin away. Once you have the plugin you then discover how to use it, and discover how it can benefit your project in ways you hadn’t anticipated.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love to travel and explore new places and cultures. That’s the one thing I most look forward to after graduating. For now I’m content to camp at the beach. When I’m home you can usually find me gardening, stargazing, or reading a good book. Right now I’m reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. It’s pretty awesome.
