What inspired you to give this talk at WordCamp?

I love sharing WordPress information and resources with others in the community who may be new to it. It’s a wonderful way to give back after having received so much benefit from the WordPress community that I have learned so much from.

How did you discover WordPress?

After 7 years of working as a board-certified music therapist, music educator and a singer-songwriter, I discovered the wonderful world of WordPress while working on my first fully-produced album. I had played around with HTML in college and wanted to build my own website to showcase (and sell) my music online.

In 2008, when I came across Mark Maxwell’s website, I looked at the source code and discovered it was built upon WordPress. Having no idea what WordPress was, I went to WordPress.org and downloaded the software. Thus began my next career of developing WordPress websites as I followed my curiosity in the world of WordPress, themes and plugins.

How has WordPress Or WordCamp impacted you?

WordPress has given me a whole new career, which I find just as rewarding as teaching and performing music. I can work from home or anywhere with an internet connection and have the flexibility I need to be present for my kids when I need to be. And since I am constantly learning new things and growing professionally as the software evolves, it never gets dull.

How do you primarily work with WordPress?

More of a developer than a designer, I can take a design concept and bring it into form using WordPress, iThemes Builder and CSS, then teach you how to maintain and update your site. I also specialize in converting HTML websites to WordPress websites, which can easily be updated using the user-friendly WordPress content editor.

What does the WordCamp theme Discovery mean to you?

My passion is to create websites that are easy to update for the website owner. Keeping that aim in mind, I am constantly seeking to support and discover themes and plugins that are coded with the customer experience in mind.
